I received an email from the Kelley admissions committee strongly encouraging me to submit a petition for direct admission to Kelley. I have a 4.3 GPA and 1340 SAT. What are my chances? Has Kelley sent out these emails in the past?

I am a Kelley Direct admit applicant with a 3.978 W gpa and a 1420 SAT and I was wondering in what range would my merit scholarship be. I am an OOS applicant living in Michigan.

Acceptance/Rejection Date and Merit Aid

I applied to IU on 11/13 for Pre-Business. I wanted to know when I can expect to receive a decision. Also, since I didn’t send my application in by Nov 1, does that mean I won’t get any merit aid? I haven’t sent IU my FAFSA and CSS Profile yet, would that be halting my decision? Can I turn those in after acceptance (if accepted) and still get some money?

Residence Scholars GPA requirement

Hi, If you get a GPA lower than 3.0 when you're living in Ashton Residence Scholars building, Do you get kicked out right away? Or do you get a chance to explain and appeal? I'm fine with all other classes, but K201 is ruining my GPA and I'm seriously worried about getting kicked out of Residence Scholars. Thank you!

Options after rejection

My D was rejected from IU and I need to know options. She has a 3.8 gpa, honors/AP student, plays 3 varsity sports, and is involved in tons of clubs and holds several officer positions. Her test scores are not good. She has lupus which affects her ability to focus and concentrate during long tests. Can we appeal the decision given her medical condition?

On-campus Housing

Being OOS, please help me understand getting a convenient on-campus housing that is closer to Kelley. 1. Is there special housing preference for Honors College? 2. Which residence is closer to Kelley school and has less disturbance. 3. When do students, at the earliest, apply for housing for Fall, 2018 enrollment. 4. Is dining available or eat out?

Indiana University Media School

Hi! I have just been accepted to Indiana (29 ACT, 3.9 GPA, from California) and I applied under the media school. I was hoping to get any information on the programs, classes, overall opinions about the Media School from actual students, since I can't find anything on their website! I am especially interested in their Media B.A. Also, if anyone can give me an idea as to how much they received/what's the likelihood of getting an SSA scholorship- that would be amazing. Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Would it be a bad Idea to ask Indiana for more scholarship money?

I have a 3.6 GPA and a 35 ACT and only recieved a $4000 a year dean's scholarship. I expected way more and it will be difficult for me to attend Indiana with only $4000 a year. I know most of the people who got good scholarships use Indiana as a safety, and will most likely never go there and cash out on those scholarships. Would it be a bad idea to try asking Indiana for more money? I feel like my stats should amount for a bit more.

Does anyone know what deadline for Kelley petition is? This seems like a simple question, but we've heard two different answers today from HS counselors and it is somewhat confusing on the website.

I was just curious if anyone knew what the acceptance rate was for Kelley direct admit for undergrad. I know the stats that you need to get in. However, I was always curious as to the acceptance rate. I know that Kelley is a top ranked business school but I could not find the acceptance rate stats for direct admit. Thanks

Essay Response ? - Petition for Kelley Direct Admit

I am seeking advice for my son.... He received notice yesterday that he got accepted to IU. He applied to Kelley but assumes (has not heard yet) that he will not get direct admit due to his GPA of 3.7 (needs 3.8), however he meets the other criteria - 31 ACT, many AP classes, incl. Calc, leader in business clubs, etc. He called Kelley admissions today and they said he was a good candidate for a petition, since he was only short one requirement - the GPA. So he's completing the petition now, but worried about his essay response on the question about his "greatest achievement." He has already written about this achievement in a short response essay on the initial IU common app. His achievement is that he started a successful business while in high school. He is convinced that he cannot write about this same topic again, as Kelley will see two essays on the same topic and they are looking for something different. Will Kelley admission reps be reading both his common app and business school essays and not want to see a similar essay topic (even though it's relevant)? I thought maybe he could write about a different aspect of his business start-up, since he IS applying to a business school. Instead, he wants to write about being captain of his HS JV lacrosse team, so that he can introduce a new topic to the reviewers. What do you think? Any advice on this is very appreciated as he wants to submit the petition tonight. Thank you!

I know this sounds dumb, but I just got an acceptance email from Indiana Bloomington. And when I check into that account thingie, it says I got into Pre Business and Marketing B2B program. Does this mean I got into the Preferred Students program?

Kelley Direct - What GPA would they want?

Hi! I am interested in getting into Kelley business directly. I have an unweighted gpa of a 3.71 (may go up to like a 3.75), a weighted gpa of a 4.2 (probably becomes a 4.3) and a SAT score of 1560. But my school's weighted GPA program is A = 4.6 for honors and A = 4.9 for AP. What GPA would they consider as far as Direct admissions?

I got into Hutton Honors College, but still no word from Kelley

I just received mail that I was admitted into the Hutton Honors, but I have yet to hear back from Kelley. Based on the criteria for Hutton, is it likely I'll hear back from Kelley soon? IU is one of my top schools so I am eager to hear back from the B-school. I applied as a marketing major, and OneIU still says Pre-Business in my app status. Thank you!

Does anyone know if sorority/fraternity housing is considered "on" or "off" campus for the purpose of filing the FAFSA? The FAFSA is asking for planned housing next year and I am not sure what the Greek housing is considered.

Hutton Honors College - an update from the grave

This is an update from a very old post that I had long forgotten about until I was reminded of it the other day. I wanted to post an update, but I neither remembered the name of the website or my old username - but eventually I found it! https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/12397665#Comment_12397665 I have to cringe reading back on how caught up I was on "prestige" of my college choice, but I was young. Anyways, here's the rest of the story... So as you can read in that thread, due to a clerical error, I was not given acceptance to Hutton. I talked with the administrator who said tough luck. I then proceeded to email the (then) president asking him if he could do anything. He was preparing to allow me in due to the oversight until that thread above started making rounds at Hutton and found its way to his inbox. So he asked me to call him, which I did. During the hour long phone conversation, he essentially scolded me for writing those things and said I shouldn't have paraphrased that the secretary said "tough" when it wasn't an exact quote - meh. Then (and this is the part that DOESN'T make it into the thread update linked above) he essentially told me he would let me in if I TAKE DOWN the thread (of course he actually beat around that bush and when I said "so you want me to take the thread down then I can get in" he said "ohh, I didn't SAY that" as if that exonerated him from the last 5 minutes of telling me exactly that). I told him that this website doesn't allow threads to be deleted by users, which at the time it didn't. So I told him I would write an update. Looking back I can't believe a dean of a college would literally trade censoring an internet post for admission into his college. In any case, I made the update in the thread above. However the next day he emailed me back saying that my updated post was not sufficient. I needed to write another update saying not to circumvent this Jill Baker person and that I also needed to apologize to her for writing the (true) post. I may have been cringy, but high-school me at least had enough self respect to not roll over to that request. I would essentially have to lie and say it was a good idea not to bypass her when it was the only reason I had gotten a chance at admission to their college. So I simply never responded, I decided not to pursue admission to Hutton. And now, having not gone to Hutton Honors College, I'm working at McDonald's and am addicted to crack cocaine...Just kidding, it had no effect whatsoever on my career trajectory. I still took a lot of "honors" classes from different departments in undergrad, so I hung in the same circles as a lot of people in Hutton. Essentially I didn't have to take any of the silly required honors classes and stuck to whichever ones I wanted (mostly honors chemistry classes). I ended up majoring in physics despite (*gasp*) NOT taking the introductory honors physics classes! Almost no one who eventually received a physics BS in my year actually took the honors version of the intro classes, and I don't think it helped those who did because none of them was myself or the one other guy who received departmental honors at graduation. Now I'm in my 3rd year of medical school, just crushed Step1, and my biggest career problem is deciding what type of surgeon to be. Moral of the story, don't get caught up in this "Honors College" or "Honors Classes" business like I did. By sophomore year, no one even mentioned the honors college anymore - the benefits are so incredibly minimal. The difficult classes that will challenge a smart young freshman like yourself aren't locked away in the honors college, and admittance isn't a reflection on your worth. IU is a fantastic place with a never-ending supply of new experiences and challenges for you to surmount. Please please don't reject IU because you're not going to be in the "Honors" college like I almost did. It's a racket for high-strung, gullible, Type-A young people like I was. So hopefully this helps someone come to IU even if for whatever reason they aren't admitted to Hutton, and if that's you shoot me a PM and we'll have a dragonfly IPA on me!
